Patch 7 was the update Larian had been pointing to for months, and it delivered the two things the community had asked for loudest: official mod support and a proper payoff for evil playthroughs.

Official mod support

The headline feature is an in-game Mod Manager: browsing, installing, and load-ordering mods without leaving the game, backed by an official modding toolkit for creators. Before Patch 7, modding Baldur's Gate 3 meant third-party tools and manual file management that broke with every update — this patch moved the most common mod workflows into something Larian actually supports.

Two caveats the notes are upfront about, and the community immediately confirmed in practice:

New evil ending cinematics

Patch 7 added new cinematics for evil endings, giving villain-run playthroughs — particularly Dark Urge ones — endings with the same cinematic weight the heroic routes always had. This had been a sore point since launch: committing to the darkest choices used to fizzle out rather than pay off. The reaction threads treated this as overdue but done well, with plenty of spoiler-tagged debate about which new ending lands hardest.

And the usual mountain of fixes

As with every numbered Larian patch, the notes carry a very long tail of bug fixes and polish across all three acts. The community's practical advice from the patch threads: if you use mods, wait for your load order to be confirmed working before updating mid-playthrough — advice that became a recurring theme for every patch after this one.

The bigger picture

Patch 7 marks the point where Baldur's Gate 3 shifted from "game being fixed" to "platform being extended." Official mod support is what keeps CRPGs alive for a decade — the community reaction read it exactly that way.
